What Makes Hypnotherapy Unique?
Hypnotherapy uses altered states of mind, or trance states, to allow you to shift into a new perspective on old patterns. What does that mean?
You might imagine that whatever challenges you are facing in life are like a complex labyrinth you are walking through. You can walk and walk, think and think, but as long as the walls loom above you, finding the solution will be difficult and time-consuming.
But what if you found an elevator in that labyrinth? What if you could see the whole maze from a new perspective, from high above?
What possibilities might you discover from experiencing a new perspective on your life?
Unlearning Our Patterns
Our brains are designed to recognize, and predict patterns. While this pattern recognition can keep us safe from danger, in our complex modern world it often keeps us stuck and stagnant.
We may wish we could change our reality but we can’t seem to change the brain’s deep, conditioned response.
No matter how much we learn about ourselves, the patterns don’t change.
This is because, often, we don’t need to learn—we need to unlearn. By entering non-normal states of mind in hypnotherapy, we are given the opportunity to unlearn and release old patterns that are no longer working for us.
Thinking Doesn't Change Us—Experiences Do
Each one of us has a model of reality—a model that heavily influences our experience each moment. This model is constructed from the most impactful moments of our life, the emotional highs and lows that shape us.
For example, one individual may have learned from a parent that stress leads to anger and anxiety. Another individual may have grown up playing sports, and had formative experiences of stress leading to positive outcomes. Both will have very different experiences of the same stressful situation.
Hypnotherapy allows us to directly explore our model, and create the experiences needed to change it to a healthier model, more aligned with our goals.
Restoring Your Control
To tell a good story, movies, tv shows, and cartoons often depict hypnosis as a process where you lose control of yourself. This could not be further from the truth.
Hypnotherapy is designed to restore and increase your inner control. Clients are empowered, experiencing a broader view of their life. Desired states of mind (deep relaxation or mental focus for example) can be created in trance and accessed in day-to-day life.
We may not always be able to control our outer circumstances, or the emotions they elicit—but we can create spaciousness, and powerful coping mechanisms, so that our first reaction does not carry us away into suffering.
You can decide—what do I want for my life?
