About Me
I’m Grace Schilp, a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University. I provide online therapy for individuals and families throughout Michigan who may be experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, depression, trauma, grief, relationship concerns, life transitions, or the emotional impact of chronic illness and neurological conditions.
I believe therapy should be a place where you feel genuinely heard and supported—not judged or pressured to have everything figured out. My goal is to create a compassionate, collaborative environment where you can better understand what you’re experiencing, develop practical coping skills, and work toward meaningful and lasting change.
Who I Work With
I work with children, teens, adults, and older adults experiencing a variety of emotional, relational, and life challenges. I have a particular interest in helping people navigating anxiety and social anxiety, acute or chronic stress, depression, trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, women’s issues, and chronic or neurological health conditions, including Parkinson’s disease. I am a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP).
Living with a chronic illness or neurological disorder can affect far more than physical health. Changes in independence, relationships, family roles, identity, and uncertainty about the future can all take an emotional toll. Therapy can provide a space to process those experiences while developing healthier ways to cope and adjust.
I also enjoy working with adolescents and young adults who may be dealing with anxiety, academic stress, relationships, identity, changing family dynamics, or uncertainty about their next steps in life.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized to you. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize connections between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and develop practical strategies for responding differently to difficult situations.
Together, we may work on identifying unhelpful thought patterns, strengthening coping and communication skills, managing anxiety and stress, processing difficult experiences, and building greater confidence and resilience.
Therapy isn’t about changing who you are. It’s about gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and developing tools that can help you feel more capable of navigating the challenges in your life.
Therapy for Anxiety, Stress & Life Transitions
Anxiety can show up in many ways—from constant worry and overthinking to feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, restless, or unsure of yourself. Major changes in relationships, school, work, health, or family life can make those feelings even more difficult to manage.
I help clients slow things down, understand what may be contributing to their anxiety or stress, and develop realistic strategies they can use outside of therapy. Our work can focus not only on feeling better in the moment, but also on building skills that support long-term emotional well-being.
Therapy for Chronic Illness & Neurological Conditions
A medical or neurological diagnosis can bring changes that affect nearly every part of life. Individuals and families may experience grief, anxiety, uncertainty, changing relationships, caregiver stress, or difficulty adjusting to a new reality.
I have a special interest in supporting clients affected by chronic illness and neurological disorders, including Parkinson’s disease. Therapy can offer a supportive place to process the emotional impact of these experiences, strengthen coping skills, and find ways to maintain connection, purpose, and quality of life through change.
Why I Became a Counselor
I became a counselor because I’m inspired by the resilience of the human spirit and our ability to grow even during difficult seasons of life. I value being able to walk alongside people as they better understand themselves, work through challenges, and discover strengths they may not have recognized in themselves.
Building trust and genuine connection is important to me. I want my clients to feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves into therapy and confident that they have someone working alongside them as they move toward greater clarity, healing, and emotional well-being.
