Balance

Life can be messy, stressful, and overwhelming. What happens to us is not always our option, how we respond to a situation is.   You may feel like you’re being pulled in so many directions and that you’re not sure how you’re going to move forward. We all have the capacity for resilience, recovering from misfortune, and adjusting to change can be supported by talking through the feelings and circumstance(s), identifying strengths, strengthening coping skills, and identifying avenues of self-care that can contribute to your personal growth and life balance. In working with adults of all ages, backgrounds, orientations, identities, cultures, and housing statuses, I use a person-centered, trauma-informed approach to help individuals meet their needs in therapy.  I strive to provide a safe place, promoting personal growth, insight, and self-efficacy. I believe that support, choice, and empowerment are essential in promoting a healthy foundation for life balance and authentic being. I am honored to be a small part of the life journeys of the individuals that are exploring life’s possibilities. Individuals I have had the pleasure of working with have struggled with:
  • Substance use
  • Trauma
  • Grief & Loss
  • Anxiety/Depression

Professional Background

I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a professional certification in Alcohol and Drug counseling. Over the past 25+ years, I have provided outpatient, intensive outpatient, residential & outpatient case management and counseling, medication-assisted treatment, and group facilitation. Based on individual needs and goals (s) in therapy a variety of counseling models, techniques and strategies may be utilized, including brief interventions, cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, Gestalt interventions, strength-based interventions, and social learning theory. Whether the past is getting in the way of the present, or the future is foggy, the present has the stress and challenges of looking for a resolution to change perception at the moment. The idea of seeking a helping professional may be uncomfortable and scary; the healing process can often be emotionally painful. A healthy connection with a therapist, in a supportive environment, is important to realize your personal strengths and promote growth to resolve feelings and challenges that may keep you from being your best you.
