“I believe that telling our stories, first to ourselves and then to one another and the world, is a revolutionary act. It is an act that can be met with hostility, exclusion, and violence. It can also lead to love, understanding, transcendence, and community. I hope that my being real with you will help empower you to step into who you are and encourage you to share yourself with those around you.” —Janet Mock, writer, TV host, and transgender activist

“The limit of your ability to love others is set by the limit of your ability to love yourself and vice versa. So, if you are struggling to grow in one, focus on the other and watch as both grow together.”

Finding Solutions

At times, life can be overwhelming and you may find yourself facing a problem that, no matter how hard you try, you simply cannot move past. It isn’t that you aren’t trying hard enough or that you’re somehow broken. When you feel as though nothing’s been working, it’s sometimes best to stop and look at problems you’ve already solved. Maybe the solution you need now has always been in plain sight and a second pair of eyes is all you need to see it.

Accepting What has been

Other times, it truly is the case that there are no solutions or a problem is unsolvable. Letting go and mourning the loss of “what could have been” or “what should be” is never easy. You’d never want to give up prematurely, but, if it truly is the case that a problem is beyond your control, maybe finding certainty and accepting that reality is all you need to give yourself permission to live freely.

Committing to Growth

And then there are times when you just don’t know where to go from here. If all you know is that you just don’t want to be where you are now, then maybe we can take the time to find where you’d like to be and how you personally can best get there in time. Change is slow and can be emotionally difficult, but there’s rarely only one precise path to any goal. By talking and taking things one day at a time, I’m sure you’ll eventually look back and see how far you’ve come through the eyes of who you’ve then become.

Moving Forward

While no counselor is perfect for everyone, I’d love to help in your journey if I’m able. I work with clients from many different walks of life facing many different issues. I specialize in treating issues surrounding anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, Autism, personality disorders, relationship issues, and conflict resolution. I happen to also be a licensed pastor and specialize in addressing issues surrounding religious abuse and helping clients disentangle healthy spiritual beliefs from the products of such abuse. I primarily operate within a Solution Focused therapeutic framework, but am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Gottman Method Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Please feel free to schedule a free consultation if you’ve any questions or schedule your first appointment if you feel we’d be a good fit.
